AN AEOLIC OR YÖRÜK GRAVESTONE, A CAPITAL, OR AN ANICONIC CULT OBJECT? PRELIMINARY THOUGHTS ON THE NEW TYPE OF VOLUTED STONE OBJECTS FROM AEOLIS

This paper presents a new type of stone objects within the boundaries Aeolis region. One them is found in an old Turkish cemetery next to Kale Tepe, north Dumanlı Mountain, and rest around Samurlu cemetery. Objects question are particularly interesting for both their size shapes. They not similar any other known archaeological or ethnological object. Despite Tepe examples were cemeteries, they also so close ancient sites related necropolises. In Cemetery, there many spolia architectural elements which reflect traces settlement here. The characteristic those makes us think about existence temple Similarly, where one was found, gives impression Persian garrison.
